to Walker or not to Walker
Let's talk about Baby-Walkers. They come in 6-wheelers, 8-wheelers, all-sorts of colours et cetera.
Some people out there *perhaps some readers down here* are against babies on Baby-Walkers. The common reason that I heard is that a baby-walker won't encourage a baby to walk, plus it will pro-create some back-problem for the baby.
One hard believer of the statement above happens to be a nurse-friend of mine. She told me she received 2 baby-walkers for her firstborn. Neither she lets her baby sits on it, nor giving it away to other babies.
Some months ago, hubby and I watched the repeat telecast of Zuriat in Suria. The program also bore the similar explanation on baby-walkers.
So, now, with Amir approaching 6-month-er, the age where infant are commonly put on the walker; the question is to put or not to put him in a baby-walker. Strange, but the truth is, that is one item we never receive at all during his 'baby-showers'.
And so, we were thinking, if we want to get him one, perhaps this would be the ideal one .....
It's from Fisher Price. The Stride-to-Ride walker is a walker cum riding toy. Suitable for ages 9 months to 2 years old. As an infant walker, it rewards baby for accomplishment of walking with lights, sounds and music. When the little one masters walking and wants to ride, convert the walker to a riding toy.And we already have one potential buyer who actually volunteer to buy for Lil Amir. *squeals*

hmm....
from wat i notice...babies who go on walkers kinda pick up walking steadily. fine examples are the nieces & nephews me & mom babysit. perhaps there cld be some truth tho'
but i dun really quite like the idea of having the above walker. takot baby licin jatuh tersembam muka dia kena itu tempat pegang.
u know baby have very fragile limbs and nerves.
walkers u can put pillow front and back right? back kasi itu baby straight posture & to feel comfy. letak kat front so that the plastic and the straps dun hurt a lot.
just a pov from a babyless woman.
actually i also not sure whether it's really scientific/medically proven.
as far as i remember also, both my younger siblings were put on walker too. My bro made his first *really steady* steps circa 10 mths old, while my sis, slightly after she turns 1. i guess diff babies diff point of time in developing 2 toddle.
aliyah, that's y the above walker is only suitable for 9-mth-er above. fyi, da conventional baby-walker has its hazard 2. like when there's a kerb, there could b a tendency the thing will topple over. that's y they advice to get the 8-wheeler, wic is more stable, n less prone to topple.
most people have the ideology that babies are fragile lots, which is not really true. but of course not to the point where you can rough-play 'em lahhh. if they really that fragile, i tell you, no one would dare to carry 'em. that's y i always encourage ppl who has phobia in baby-carrying to simply give it a try.
The only reason why I bought the walker with wheels was because of my mom. She used it to feed Farah and Sofia. Generally, why it is not encouraged is because of safety reason - takut terjatuh. But it is still ok if your house doesn't hv staircase and just keep and eye on the baby. Alternatively, get an exersaucer (http://www.safety1st.com/product.asp?productID=75) and the FP walker (the picture you hv). Get Safety1st one (check at Robinsons) but be prepared to spend. It would probably cost more than $200 or close to $200. The FP walker tu, tak payah beli ah .. I can pass you my dds punya. Not as fancy as the one in the picture but both my girls picked up walking from that :)
Hmm..let me recalled from my 3 kids experience eh...
Hmm..
I've put all 3-IRs' in the walker as early as 5mths old. They 'Vroom' here and 'Vroom' there in it. :)
Irfan & Irdina made their first walk at the age of 10mths.
Whereas Irsyad was at 13th mths old.
Sincerely, I think, it's all depends on each of every single capability of each kid. Am I Rite? ;)
fwahhh dat exersaucer looks fun n interesting. thks 4 MMS-ing your dd FP walker. wait i show hubba-hubba c weder he nods on it. if both nods, perhaps we tell the 'potential buyer' 2 get amir a riding car wen he's bigger. hehehehe....
yes salha, i so agree wif yo statement. n actually, all this stuffs also is just pure luxury. masa time i lagi takde walker-malker segalanya. bertateh-berjalan-berlari jugak akhirnya. hehehe ...
awak jgn marah eh.. bt as a mama of 2 now.. well i do have dat comment from sm ppl dat irfan shldnt b put in walker.. nanti lbt jalan lah lambat crawl lah.. bla.. bla.. bt alhamdulilah he went thru all stages u.. even though in walker.. n its best to get walker yg duduknya not like e pix u showed.. coz benda tu kejap je ah dey pakai.. tak ya beli.. if u nak pun i ada bt tak secanggih tu lah..
or mayb u cld get cam irfan nya walker.. its colourful , big n not easy to topple.. also restraint him to alot of places so senang skit taklah merbahaya as dos cheap walkers.. i bought it from KP.. nanti i mms u e pix eh? u consider lah.. altho its big n tk up space at hm bt its safety..
ttg lambat or cepat jalan to individual lah.. dont worry smua babies will go tru e steps of growing up..
Hi Liz... Danisha aso on walker @ 5 mths. But @ 7 mths, they start walking oredi. So I tink walkers shud be ok..
hello ummi amir,
ya dah lama i tak update hor....very the busy....u in IT shld be familiar kan kalau ade sys to roll-out, plus the unrealistic deadline from mgmt (mgmt tau, not users! users pun mengeluh, you!! maklumlah mgmt dah publicize ini sys kat media...grrr!!)
in the homefront, shafi baru recover from fever+diarrhoea. it was so much easier when he's younger, ubat kasi semua dia telan. but now anak mummy dah besar, dah pandai tak nak makan ubat...so kena wrestle bila nak feed him his med.
abt the walker, i had the same reservations like you. but in the end, we put him in the walker. just have to keep watch. even if u don't put him in the walker, once he start crawling & grabbing things, it is as dangerous. the thing to note is to make sure the hse is baby friendly. also, by putting him in the walker, it frees whoever is babysitting to do other things like hsewrk.
and, alhamdullilah, shafi started walking at 13mths.

thks nur 4 da offer. wait we look-see-look-see 1st. y dont u keep it 4 lil Azza.
yes LS, the exact word hubby n i r having is Reservations. we have reservations, esp we, The New Parents receive tips/comments/remarks/taboos on baby-walkers. if we don't have the reservations, of course this blog-entry wont materialise. n we r so thankful of the responses that even a few offer 2 hands-me-down their children's walkers.
one thing i learnt, the conventional walker seems Hot Favourite, not only 4 walking-sake. but Convenience sake; during feeding time, prevent 'em from grabbing stuffs, etc.
hmmm Danish on walker now..member pandai brake ah..n when there's a hurdle he will lift the walker up n tip toe..hehe...
frankly speaking...kalau it is such a hazard..of course dah lama kena ban?
walaupun ade walker..i still teach Danish the 'tateh...tateh..."
Danish tak sakit belakang...ibu dia aje yg sakit...
liza entah eh i ta tau plak kalau si azza nak main benda tu. takpe if u nak can use lah.. coz its a pressie for irfan.. bt like i said its alcheapo type bt up to u..
n yes agree with LS with this walker senangnya e babysitter can do other things.. n dey cant grab things sesuka hati.. altho once dey st crawling n walking ah makin menjadi ah deir curiosity..
irfan skg da terror benar.. dah pandai angkat itu tepon n picit2.. answer wen call comes in.. n panjat cam monyet skg noh.. hai penat tul.. wish can still put him in his walker.. *evil mama*..
no komen ah tapi its up to individual kan kan kan *wink*
haha! wah has, danish pandai brake. e-brake kot? hehehe ...
has, tho' the walker is not ban, cos its not recognisable as occupational/fire/or-wat-haf-dey hazards out der, i tink we stil haf 2 keep n eye on 'em wen dey r in it, like mentioned by my cuz zu. househazards lurch evrywer, wifout us un-notice.
nur mintak no tepon rumah u ahhh, i nak dgr operator Irfan angkat tepon. kekekeke ...
yes babyhd, its still up 2 individual. *wink bac*
Hi! *waves* ape habak maok maok? da makan? slmt tgh hari!
Hi KOliza,
Me sokong kata Aliyah, walker zaman modern nie nampak cantik tapi takut safety anak2 kecil pulak. Better use walker yg zaman2 kita sudah lagi byk safety noh :)

My Alisha loves to be put inside the walker.. Selalu org dulu2 cakap kalau budak suka dok walker bleh jalan cepat...
Awak nak jadi Alisha nya sofy toys eh? Bleh gak..apa karektor awak nak jadi so bleh suruh Alisha cuddle2 awak eh...ehehe
Itu Zen memang dah lama saya eyeing2 kan.. hehe.. Memang dah lama gak pakai itu murah nya brand,,now baru lah ada rezeki beli itu Zen.. hehe..
to walker or not to walker... hmm..si Ash we put him in walker time 6 mths... baru2 gostan... tapi skrg da maju ke hadapan... recently we brought him to see a pedi coz he wasnt well...and asked abt walker... coz si budak ni tak crawl2... she said... babies yg da used to walker will normally skip crawling and will start walking... wic i hope so lah ...
so kita tgu dan lihat ye..
